A 17-year-old boy, David Duwa escaped death by a whiskers after he was shot at close range at Stop-Over Supermarket just outside Masvingo, Zimbabwe on Monday.
Eyewitness account has it that Duwa had just entered the supermarket after he had arrived from Morningside where he had gone to buy vegetables.
It was gathered that Duwa who is an artisanal miner at Good Seven Mine, was shot in the buttocks with the bullet coming through his abdomen. He is in admission at Masvingo General Hospital.
A barman, Jimmy Tava Matambo said he hid behind a diesel pump at the service station as the armed robbers escaped from the supermarket and they dashed into the night.
Matambo who got involved in a tussle with the robbers was stabbed in the head and upper abdomen with what appeared to be a blunt object, a driver, Fana Tsikai, was allegedly hit with the butt of a gun, injuring him in the process.
Matambo and Tsikai were treated and discharged at Masvingo General Hospital.
Masvingo Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the attempted robbery. The robbery is the fifth robbery in the Southern Region in four weeks.
