The police panel commissioned to look into the violence that characterised the December 10, 2016 , legislative rerun elections in Rivers State, is on the look out to recover the N350 m bribe cash balance, which the panel alleged was given to officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The committee alleged that the cash was given to about 23 officials of INEC by officials of the Rivers State Government in order to ensure that the election was rigged.
While the police have displayed the N111.3 m, reportedly recovered from some officials of INEC, the panel said N238.7 m is still missing.
The panel, headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Damian Okoro, in its report, presented on Tuesday in Abuja said, “Out of N350 m, N15 m was given to each of the electoral officers and N5 m was added by the government of Rivers to the EOs who were in charge.”
“Consequently, the sum of N111.3 m was recovered by the panel from the 23 electoral officers.”
