Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday expressed his support for the South-East to produce the next President of Nigeria.

Obasanjo who stated this at his residence, Presidential Hilltop in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, however, said this was his personal view. The South-East is made up of Igbo-speaking citizens of Nigeria. The former leader while speaking when the Ogun State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, paid him a visit, also noted that the next governor of Ogun should be produced by Ogun West Senatorial District to ensure fairness, justice and equity.

Since Ogun state was created in 1976, Ogun West Senatorial District has not produced a governor. According to Obasanjo, his love for fairness and justice in the country, made him work for the emergence of a South-South governor in 2009.

Obasanjo said “Irrespective of the thinking of the people ahead of the 2019 ( elections ), I personally think that the South – East should have a go at the Presidency too.”

The former president noted that if the perceived injustice is not addressed, the people might take up arms to address the situation.
