Minneapolis Man beat his 89-year-old mother with a sculpture of himself before smothering her with a pillow, court records say.
Minneapolis man has admitted to killing his 89-year-old mother after he became angry over a bedbugs outbreak in her apartment, authorities said. Michael Gallagher called police in Minneapolis on Friday to tell them he had killed his mother, court documents say. The 62-year-old was reportedly worried she would be kicked out of her home because of a bedbugs outbreak.
According to an arrest affidavit, Gallagher told police he was “despondent” over the possibility of his mother losing the apartment, saying she “has a lot of things to move”. He told police he went to the downtown apartment on Thursday to help her clean. At some point, he allegedly beat his mother with a sculpture of himself and smothered her with a pillow, court records say.
Gallagher is charged with second-degree murder. Bail was set at $2m. His next court appearance is scheduled for 27 January.
