Hector Bellerin may be maybe getting it right on the pitch this season, but on the Arsenal training ground he is seriously struggling to fulfill his defensive duties.

That is not due to a lack of effort, but simply a consequence of playing against one of the few players at the Emirates who has been even more impressive than the young Spaniard, Alexis Sanchez.

The Chile international has shot himself to stardom since arriving from Barcelona in 2014, scoring 24 goals for the Gunners across all competitions last season. Arsenal’s opponents now live in fear of the diminutive powerhouse, and Bellerin understands why.

He told Sky Sports: “A player like him is always so hard to defend against. I’ve been training with him for more than a year and it’s still so hard, you literally never know what he’s going to do, he’s so quick, always touches the ball at the last minute and has an eye for goal as well.”

Along with Mesut Ozil, Sanchez was seen as a cornerstone of a new era of financial security at Arsenal. For years, Arsene Wenger has had to cut budgets, sell players and miss out in the transfer market to fund their stadium move. Sanchez arrived as a genuine world-class star and has certainly lived up to that billing so far.
