A Nigerian born preacher, Gabriel Omogbo, allegedly raped and robbed escorts in violent hotel encounters after connecting with his victims online, according to a report. Gabriel Omogbo, 33, of Hyattsville, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery, assault, theft and reckless endangerment, court records show.
Omogbo reportedly found escorts through classified ads on the website Backpage.com. Two of the encounters where Omogbo allegedly raped and robbed two call girls occurred at a Best Western Plus in Rockville, according to WJLA-TV. A third incident reportedly occurred at a Radisson Hotel location, when Omogbo allegedly ordered a woman to strip naked and told her, “you are going to die today.” Omogbo cut the woman’s arms, legs and hands and beat her face before stealing her iPad, cellphone and $300, police told WJLA-TV. Before fleeing, he reportedly told the woman to wash up and handed her a cup of cold water to drink.
Investigators purportedly matched the phone number Omogbo used to communicate with the escorts against pawn records and located the phone Omogbo has served as a preacher at the Celestial Church of Christ in Riverdale, an African Initiated Church. A 2014 YouTube video shows Omogbo speaking to the church congregation about humility and faith.
“The fear of the lord makes all of our life better,” he said.
Omogbo’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 8, according to court records.
