A controversial new video from the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau surfaced in the early hours of Thursday, March 24 it has generated a huge buzz among Nigerians.

In the seven-minute video, subdued Abubakar Shekau appears in a military uniform with a rifle resting on his left shoulder and said he wanted to thank his followers for their dedication.
“I have done my part. This message is just to reassure you that I’m alive and actually the one speaking to you,” he said in both Hausa and Arabic,” he said. The video however lacked the usual taunts and denunciation of political leaders of previous videos and will likely be interpreted as an admission of defeat, the dejected-looking Shekau declared: “For me the end has come”.

But many Nigerians angered by the colossal destruction, the estimated 20,000 people who have been killed, over 100,000 injured and the over 1.5million people displaced the Boko Haram’s six-year insurgency have called demanding for more action to be taken against the Boko Haram leader.
