No fewer than 1,447 cattle rustlers and other bandits have renounced criminality and surrendered to the authorities in Yauri Emirate of Kebbi State.

Alhaji Ibrahim Yauri, the Press Secretary to the Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu, made this known in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
“Following series of reports and complaints by herdsmen and Miyetti Allah leaders on rustling and kidnappings, the Emir of Yauri summoned a meeting with some groups where they promised to assist the government in fishing out the hoodlums. ” Upon hearing the committee was set up at the emirate , district and village head levels, the suspects voluntarily surrendered and repented,” he said.

Yauri said the repentant rustlers agreed to swear by the Holy Quran and Bible not to indulge, assist or harbour any criminal henceforth in the area.

“We have 74 repentant rustlers from Yauri, 335 from Ngaski and 1,038 from Shanga Local Government Areas in the emirate,” he said.

He appealed to local communities to embrace those who surrendered, stressing the need for forgiveness to allow peace in the area. The repentant hoodlums, he said, also agreed to help the government in fishing out all those they know were engaged in the act to surrender.

The press secretary said the repentance and swearing initiative was supervised by the Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on Security, Mohammed Danhanne, and other members of his committee
